Virtual Meeting - May 25

Welcome back. Grab your cup of coffee and enjoy all the great pictures of projects we have for Show and Tell, this week.

This week's thought of the day: Housework only comes before Quilting in the dictionary.

For this week's tip, I asked some of the local quilt shops what their current shopping policies are. These are the replies I got, if you are looking to shop for fabric.

Mad About Patchwork is open for Online orders with Curbside pick up, Delivery to your door in Ottawa, and Shipping Canada Post (all  Monday -Friday 10-4)
We are cutting orders the same day, so you can get your fabric fast!
We have great mask fabric, and plenty of fabric for you to look over.  We find our online fabric pics are pretty true to color, so no need worry.

We miss you and can't wait to see you in the store again!

Happy Quilting,
Madonna Oliver

Perhaps by next time, I'll have more.

Now, on to Show and Tell.

I am putting this one first because it is really special (at least to me). This quilt was made by my husband's Grandmother, for his parents, on the occasion of their wedding, 68 years ago this week.

The quilter's name was Rosetta Mintz. She won prizes at the local fair for her quilting. I have another quilt she made that has plates made of her prize ribbons.

I need to mend the worn areas, attach a label to it, and wash it (very carefully).

Anita has been sewing up her scraps. This first project is left over from her White Chocolate quilt.

This second one is scraps from her Snow Days quilt.

Barb Karim says this isn't a new project, but I think it is a very happy quilt.

Barb Sharp-Bond has finished 2 quilts for Victoria's Quilts and they were quilted by Krista.

Carole Kennedy finished this lovely quilt for her new granddaughter, Charlie Jean, who is four months old.

Carol McFee sent us wall hangings to celebrate Summer.

Christine Welsh finished some knitting. First, Easter gifts for her grandsons in England.

Also a beautiful baby shawl for a friend's grandson.

Diane Hart has been doing so much cooking she decided to make herself to a new apron.

Jan Pound sent us her version of the Kanata Guild Mystery Quilt. She made it for her granddaughter, Olivia.

She fussy cut hummingbirds for the centres .  The quilt was quilted by Stella Gray, in the design Golden Curls.

Jeannie Barkin send us her current Work in Progress. It is a Missouri Star patter, for her granddaughter, who is nine and loves pink. Jeannie says she plans to add a 6" border. I bet it will be pink!

MaryAnn sent us a picture of a quilt she made in 2012. It is noteworthy, because MaryAnn doesn't do much applique.

Pat N asks if any one remembers when Poole Creek had a basket quilt challenge. This is hers.

Pat was sick in the fall, so she did her red and white challenge from her stash. She has her top finished.

Rose has been making masks. She says she has made hundreds for her family, friends, and a clinic in Morrisburg.

As well, she says,"I have donated at least 75% of my fabrics for other sewers to make masks and scrubs for front line staff, for hospitals and disability sources and the Heart Institute."

That is a lot of fabric.

Silly me, I thought the nice weather would mean we wouldn't have a lot of pictures this week. Wow, that has been a wonderful treat for the eyes.

Our next Virtual Meeting is June 8. Keep sewing and taking pictures.

Virtual Meeting - May 4

Nancy has supplied us with the thought for today, although she credits her husband for finding it.

Our tip of the week: Last time I was asked if Anita had a pattern for her trivet. Rather than break any copyright rules, I suggest that you do a search for "Folded Star Trivet". I found lots of free patterns and YouTube videos. Choose the best one for your learning style.

My choice was this one.

I see many people have been busy sewing. We have some great pictures this week, so let's enjoy.

Andrea made a bag from some quilted fabric she had in her stash.

Anita is working away at her UFO collection.

This is a scrappy Half Log Cabin.

The next two pictures are a Disappearing Pinwheel, a pattern from the Missouri Star Quilt Company. Anita says that the layer cake she used was very diverse in colour and fabric design, and Nicole has taken the blocks to make a quilt for Victoria's Quilts. Anita is happy to have it out of her UFO's.

Barb bought this wall hanging when she was in Egypt. She says you can see more on the makers by looking for Tent Makers of Cairo, on YouTube.

Carol McFee is celebrating the end of April showers (or snow).

Doreen has also been finishing off some UFO's.

The first is "Twelve Days of Christmas."

And the second is a landscape.

Helen is finishing a tabletopper for her table in Florida.

Janice has been sewing for her grands.

This is an Amish Puzzle Ball, pattern is from Pinterest.

And a sunhat, with lemurs, now that the good weather is finally here.

Nicole made this quilt, called "Pop Beads', from her stash fabric.

And she took the string pieced blocks from Anita (in the last Show and Tell) and made them into a quilt for Victoria's Quilts.

This brings us to the end of this week's Show and Tell. I thought you would enjoy this.
