Virtual Meeting - November 15, 2021

 I'm hearing Christmas music on the radio and there are Christmas movies on the TV. I don't know about you, but I am not ready! 

Meanwhile, in our Show and Tell, sanity is still prevailing, and you are saving your Christmas Show and Tell for December!

Anita is busy making things. This quilt is for her grandson. The back is green which is Anita's favourite colour, and her grandson's, too.

Anita's second quilt is for her second granddaughter, who is in preschool. There is a matching lunchbox for when she gets to kindergarten. Anita's husband Jacob quilted both these quilt. 

Barb Karim has made us a "Murder of Crows".

Barb Sharp-Bond tells us that this quilt is a mystery quilt from the Kanata Guild.

She made this quilt for Victoria's Quilts.

Johanne Stirling is a member of a gaming guild called "Gilded" . The head of the guild is a coffee fanatic, and was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Johanne made her this quilt.

Johanne called the quilt "Gilded Coffee Stars", and on the back she put the word for coffee in Morse Code in the languages of all the languages of the guild members around the world.

Johanne also drew a coffee stain on the label!

Many of you will remember Lois MacKinnon, who was a member of Poole Creek for a number of years. Lois made this lovely quilt to give to the new Veteran's House..

Lois quilted it by hand.

As my small contribution to this project, I made the binding and sewed it on. 

Our next Show and Tell will be our annual Christmas Show and Tell. The date is December 6, which, appropriately is St. Nicholas Day. I know there are lots of Christmas quilts, wall hangings and table runners. Take some pictures and share your Christmas with the rest of the group.

Virtual Meeting - November 1, 2021

November, already.  I am glad to see many of you keeping busy at your sewing machines. Though, I must ask: Have you cleaned your machine lately? I cleaned mine the other day and I could not believe how much lint was in the bobbin case. I changed my needle at the same time and it is happily sewing away again.

We have some great pictures for this week. I am sure you will enjoy them.

Anita has been at it again. She has two quilts for us. The first says "Your time as a butterfly has expired. Your wings are ready." She made this for her oldest granddaughter, who started Grade 1 this year.

The second was made from the remnants and is for her youngest granddaughter.

Beth van Wyngaarden finished this quilt she designed, that she called "Birdland". She sys it was a lot of piecing.

Christine Welsh made this quilt for her grandson, who is six. She used a variety of techniques including applique, trapunto, and hand embroidery.

She added an alien into a pocket on the back, as well as a key to the constellations.

Helen Anderson has headed south, but did this quilt top before she left.

Jan Pound made these placemats from four fat quarters and some coordinating fabric. The pattern is called "Take Four" . She is thinking about making it again in Christmas fabric. These placemats went to her son and daughter-in-law for their anniversary.

I received a donation of a Connecting Threads kit to make pouches. I made the pouches and donated them to the fall fund raiser for the Lyndhurst Feral Cat Rescue.

Leslie has been finishing up some WIPs. First up is a quilt made from a jelly roll of batiks. sewn together in strips and cut into triangles.

The second quilt was a kit from Flare Fabrics  (now closed) in Maberly.  The pattern is called "Zen". Leslie said she didn't like batiks at the time but they are now a go to choice for quilts. Both quilts were beautifully quilted by Krista Zaleski.

MaryAnn gives a throwback to 2013. with this I Spy quilt. She is nostalgic for the days when we had in person Show and Tell.

Pat Nyenhuis made two quilts for her daughter. 

That is the line up for today. I hope you are inspired.

Our next Show and Tell will be Nov. 15. 

On Dec. 6, we will have our second annual Christmas Show and Tell. If you are making gifts for presents, take a picture and send it to me. I have already started a folder for them. As you decorate, take a picture. We want to see all things quilty for Christmas. since it will be St. Nicholas Day, maybe we can see those Santa quilts.
