April 2023 - Virtual Meeting

 Spring seems to be slowly creeping in. The weather is warm one day, cold the next. Of course, it is a sign of how long the winter has been when we consider +5C to be a "warm day".

I think you must all have been playing in the sunshine, this weekend, since I only have a small number of pictures, but I'm sure they will brighten your morning.

Anita has been as busy as ever. She quilted the first two quilts on her Bernina machine.

It is lovely to see your face!

There is another quilter in Anita's family.

Ivy made her first quilt, with a bit of help from Grandma.

Doreen has a new table topper quilt. 

It will come as a huge surprise that I have a finished quilt this month. I found the top, backing, and binding, neatly folded together, lost for some time, in January. Krista quilted it, and the binding is now on it. It will hang in my stairway, and has the very original name "Cat Quilt"

Finally, also in the found treasures department, MaryAnn found Quick Quilt kit she had had for many years, and when she finally made it, it was done in 2 hours. It ready to welcome spring.

March 2023 - Virtual Meeting

 First of all, for those who are wondering, the new organizing committee has starting talking, and they hope to have some information for us soon. Meanwhile, keep sewing.

I can actually now say that I had a part in a quilt that was at this QuiltCon. It may be the only time my work will be seen in an international show. 

The quilt is called "Myriad Interpretations of Language" and my block is in the off white section. The requirement was to embroider a line across the block and then embroider a second line in another colour that crosses the first line. Blocks were sent to Sam Hunter of Hunter Designs from all over the world and she completed the quilt.

Now, for this month's Show and Tell.

Anita has sent us pictures of her winter quilts before she changes them out.

Anita has also been making hot mats from her scraps, again.

Diane Hart has a quilt top that she thinks is perfect for March .

I'm sure we all enjoy seeing some green, right now.

Three of my Kanata Friends had coffee togehter recently at Doreen's house and sent me these pictures of Doreen's wall hangings.

I love it when you include your faces with the quilts.

Joanne Ritchie made this quilt pre-Covid but never got a chance to show it. The churn dash blocks are 3 inches, the orange peel blocks are 4 inches and the outer borders are 5 inches, The pattern is by Jen Kingwell.

Joy has been working away on a Minecraft quilt for her grandson. The quilt had to grow when her grandson got a queen size bed, after Joy had started the quilt.

Shirley Lambert sent a picture of her Baltimore Album. I just love looking at applique quilts and Shirley's is outstanding.

I was going to show a quilt that I had actually finished. However, somebody else had other ideas. I sew the binding one while sitting at the dining room table. since the cats tend to lay their on sunny days, I covered the quilt with a tablecloth. (You don't have to tell me, I already know that he is in charge, not me.)

I guess you will have to wait for next month to see it.

I did make a couple of bags. The first was another Project Quilting Challenge, make a quilted item based on a book you have read. My book was "The Windsor Knot" by S.J. Bennett. It is a mystery with Queen Elizabeth as the detective. So, of course, I made a handbag with a cat wearing a tie with a Windsor knot.

I also made a Retreat Bag from an African Batik.

February 2023 - Virtual Meeting

 I guess every one is in hibernation right now, because I didn't get a lot of pictures for this month's Show and Tell. However, what we have is inspiring.

Anita has been trying out some 3 yard quilt patterns. She says they are easy and fun, and use up some of the fabric in her stash.

She also did a scrappy quilt.

Anita bought some fabric in Selkirk, Manitoba while visiting her sister, Lois, last summer. Her sister died just before Christmas, so she made two throw quilts, one to keep and one to give to her sister, Lynne, so they can use them and remember Lois.

Carol McFee created this lovely wall hanging that she calls Cathedral Mosaic, because it looks like the tile floors in Italy. She based it on a pattern by Jacqueline DeJong.

If you are looking for challenge to get your brain working, try Project Quilting. A prompt is posted on one Sunday, and you have to complete a quilted item based on the prompt by noon the following Sunday. There are no other rules.

The prompt for the second challenger was Pink Tint, and this is my entry. It is a string pieced project bag for knitting. The zipper and lining are also pink.

I bought some labels last year, from a Canadian company called Spotted Zebra, and I actually remembered to sew one on before I added a zipper and lining.

Small group for January. Hope to see more next month.

January 2023 - Virtual Meeting

 Our celebrations are over, my tree is now down, however, there still seems to be chocolate at my house. I hope you all stayed safe and didn't get caught by any of the weather we had over the holidays.

In the months before Christmas, a group of quilters at Kanata United Church took on the task of making 10 banners for the walls of the church for Advent and Christmas. Many of these ladies are also members of Poole Creek (or former members). The banners are two sets of 5, in mirror image to go on the east and west sides of the sanctuary.

The fabric was mostly donated from our stashes and from the church quilt group's stash. One banner was added each week of Advent, and the final one was hung for Christmas Eve. Lovely work ladies (I just put on bindings).

Now on to our individual projects.

Doreen missed the last Show and Tell, but was right on time for this one. She sent us pictures of her Christmas wall hangings.

Joy is making a Minecraft quilt for her grandson. She procrastinated in starting and in the meantime, he got promoted to a queen size bed. This should keep Joy busy. She got 4 blocks done this past week, and has 26 more to go. She is trying to make it entirely from her scraps.

I got a new phone and it didn't fit in my purse, so I decided to make the phone a new bag. This is the Findley Phone Wallet. I added a crossbody strap because I like to have my hands free. The fabric has cats, of course.

Teddy Bears make excellent props for small bags.

December 2022- Christmas Virtual Meeting

 It is the Season, again. 

I don't have my tree up yet but past experience tells me this is what it is going to look like.

Most people have lovely ornaments, I have cats!

I hope you have your festive beverage in hand, because this year's Christmas collection is the best!

Anita has a gorgeous Christmas wall hanging.

Look at the hand applique.

This is her poinsettia throw.

This is a UFO that finally got quilted.

Anne Gravel finished her tree skirt, last year, just in time for Christmas.

She started this Christmas Village quilt at a quilt retreat (many, many year ago) and it was quilted by Grace Whiting.

Anne started this one in 2019, at a class at Maker's Savvy. It was quilted by Stella Grey and Anne is working on finishing the binding for this Christmas.

Barb Karim made this tree skirt for her son and his family.

Barb also sent a few of her other Christmas creations.

Barb Sharp-Bond has very wisely made a reversible Christmas quilt, with Christmas on one side and blocks using Downton Abby themed fat quarters for the other side. The quilt is queen size and was quilted by Krista.

Beth Marshall has this Christmas panel quilted, and it just needs a binding. Doable by Christmas.

Carole Kennedy makes ornaments each year for her children and grandchildren. This year she made a few extra.

Doris Braslins says that she made this bean bag Santa in the 80's. It is well loved and it always comes out of the box and onto the mantle on Des. 1.

Joanne Ritchie made this tree skirt for her daughter.

Joy Melsness sent some pictures of her Christmas decorations. She says the reindeer tablerunner reminds her of jan Kittle since she bought the pattern at the Pickle dish.

This is my tree skirt. It got started at retreat a number of years ago and then it got forgotten for a number of years. I pulled it out in February of 2018 and finished, because it is so much easier to finish Christmas things in February,

A couple of weeks ago, I saw this pattern from the Passport to Quilting promotion. I was looking for a door decoration for my Mother-in-law's apartment. It is a single 12"block, and I machine tied it, It uses the backing as the binding,

Kathy O'Hagan made these stocking for a family friend who wanted plain stockings. She embroidered name tags for the stockings and the family loves them.

Keeping with the stockings, Kathy made these stockings for her two little dogs.

MaryAnn McLaughlin made cushions and gift bags this year.

It is said that friends are a gift you give to yourself. Thank you, friends for all your inspiration in 2022. I'm looking forward to see what you all create in 2023.
