Show and Tell - June 2024

Despite the heat, many of our members have been sewing away, getting things done.

Because Canada Day is this weekend, I think we should open with Lynda Smyth's Canada Day Quilt.

Lynda made this quilt in 2017 to celebrate Canada 150. She used the 365 day challenge blocks, colouring the backgrounds to make the leaf.

Anita has finished a wedding quilt for her son and his fiancée. She says she even has the label done.

Anita's granddaughter, June, is showing off her first quilt. She selected all the fabrics, herself.

Carol has a Spring wall hanging, hand embroidered and appliqued, of course.

Judy has completed another quilt top. I wonder if she has used all of her greens in this.

Judy's Mom, Marion, a long time Poole Creek member, is still crafting away.

Last time, I showed a bag that was a test bag for one I was making for a young man. The new bag is now finished. The bag is in waxed canvas and waterproof nylon pack cloth. Quite a change from sewing cottons. (The new one is in boring navy.)

Susan Schmidt received a gift of  3 boxes of fabric, from the husband of a quilting friend. Susan's friend, Cheryl,  passed away last fall. Susan has been busy sewing up the fabric. She has added her friend's name to a couple of blocks in each quilt.

Enjoy your Canada Day!

Show and Tell - April & May 2024

Welcome Spring (or maybe it's summer). The return of warmer weather will have many of you our in your gardens, but some of the group have some nice things to show.

First of all, I received this notice that some of you might be interested in.

 Now to our pictures.

Carol McFee has sent us another of her lovely works.

This beauty by Carol just looks so bright and cheery.

Helen Anderson has been making donation quilts for a charity in Florida.

A donation for Victoria's Quilts by Joanne.

Another quilt for Victoria's Quilt's from Joanne.

I've been bag making again. This is Celosia by Blue Call Patterns. The materials are all from my stash.

I decided in January I was going to try to make a pair of socks every month, and these are my finishes for January to April.

Mavis turned a table runner pattern into a cute wall hanging.

Shirly brought this lovely to show us at the last meeting.

Finally, Shirley's spectacular Baltimore Album.  You might have to turn your head to the side, since the quilt is sideways. Sorry!

Remember, clicking on the pictures will make them bigger so you can see them better. Hope to see all of you soon and that you have lots more pictures for next month.

Show and Tell - March 2024

March has turned into quite a tease, with spring one day and winter the next. Let's hope that April is a little less fickle.

We have a small number of pictures for you today, but I think you will enjoy them.

Anita says that this is a long overdue quilt for her daughter Amy, and Amy's husband Chris. You will have to ask her the story. The quilt was quilted by Krista.

Next, this is Carol McFee's Garden Log Cabin, designed by Ngaire Brooks from Australia.

Joy made this Ricky Tims wallhanging called Bending Tree. The pattern called for reverse applique, but Joy said she wasn't in the mood, so it is raw edge applique, instead.

Judy Case says her granddaughter Phoebe is ready to move to her "Big Girl Bed" and needed a new quilt.  So here it is.

I have been playing with scraps to make some small bags. The first is from a YouTube video that came up in my recommendations one day (sometimes the recommendations are right.)

Both bags are made from one piece of fabric and the zipper is added.  The binding is also a scrap from a quilt binding.

I also made this drawstring bag, although I decided I liked is as a basket so I haven't inserted the drawstring.

I hope you are all happily sewing and will have lots of pictures for next month.

Our next show and Tell is April 30.

February 2024 - Show and Tell

Welcome to our monthly collection of Show and Tell pictures. Remember, if you would like to have a picture of  your work posted, you need to send me the picture.

First, I promised (threatened) a cat picture. My little cat Emme decided to be very cute yesterday morning, so I will share her happy little face, and her very long whiskers.

On to the quilts!

Joanne Ritchie finished her Oh My Gosh quilt. That is two of those in a row! Check the tiny little pieces.

Next is the Border Creek Stash Buster from 2020.

This is Bonnie Hunter's Bit Coin.

And finally, Joanne was clearing out and chopping up her orphan block drawer.

Judy Emond went to Bali, last May. She got to make her own batik fabrics. First they dyed some white cotton, then they stamped on wax to make the design. finally they bleached or over dyed with a darker colour.

Here is Judy, hard at work.

And here is her finished fabric.

Lynda Smyth made and Irish Chain baby quilt for her niece in Scotland. She machine quilted it with the help of the cat.

That is all for today. Remember, you can send you pictures any time during the month and I'll drop them in my folder for Show and Tell.

January 2024 - Show and Tell

It's a new year, and we have all survived the really cold weather. I have been doing a lot of knitting by the fire. I am sure many of you have been doing handwork, under a warm quilt.

As our tip for this month, Anita sent us a YouTube video on ways to prevent your iron from leaking. I'm sure it is helpful for all of us.

I discovered a new author some of you might enjoy. Barbara Emodi is from Nova Scotia and writes cozy mysteries that take place in a small town in Nova Scotia called Gasper's Cove. The books have a crafting theme to them, and the first one is called "Crafting for Murder".

Now to Show and Tell.

Anita is still sewing her scraps. Here are some table mats she made recently.

Diane Hart is keeping busy in the cold.  She is making blocks for a quilt called "99 Bottles"  It is 16 blocks, each 14 inches. There is also pieced sashing and a pieced border.

I did a little sew along that was hosted on Instagram. The designer is on a mission to use up scraps, this year, so she is publishing some little bag patterns, quick and easy. This one is made from 5 - 10" squares.

In 2023, Lynda Smyth finished her  OMyGosh quilt.  How is yours coming, Joanne? Not for me, but this pattern from Sue Garman is a real scrap buster project.

Lynda also finished Jane Austen's coverlet quilt.

MaryAnn sent a picture of her first applique quilt. She made it in 2012 for a gift for a 50th wedding anniversary.

MaryAnn picked up these blocks with some fat quarters from the give away table, last week. She was wondering if anybody knew what the pattern is called and if half the blocks should lean one way and half the other.

Just a reminder that we are back to the first and third Tuesdays for the meetings from now until June.

Our next show and Tell is February 27.
