Virtual Meeting - June 28, 2021

Welcome back. I hope you are all enjoying our summer weather.

Anita reports that Sew For It in Bells Corners is closing this fall, with Ed and Betty finally retiring. If you need anything, or just want to wish them well, drop in soon.

Our members are still working away, creating beautiful things.

First up is Anita. While she is recovering from surgery, she has been doing some cross stitch.

Christine Welsh welcomed another grandchild, last week, this one a grandson. She made him this quilt and quilted it using ideas from the book Walk.

Helen Anderson made this quilt and eventually presented it to the Royal Matron of the Order of Amaranth for Washington, as a gift from Canada.

The borders have the provincial flowers embroidered on the dark squares.

Janice Pound finished a UFO called Stitch Happens. It was quilted by Krista and has Tula Pink Sewing Machine fabric on the back.

Janice also made a Mini Maker Case in a workshop with the Kanata Guild. It is intended to be used with a mini iron, and she made it to match a portfolio made from a By Annie pattern called Zip It Up.

If you would like to make your own Mini Maker Case, the pattern is free and can be found here:

Kate (that's me) finally finished my Pony Express bag.  The bag pattern is based on a classic Dior bag. The pattern is from Ujamaa Bagettes and the proceeds from the pattern go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

The Dior bag uses more conservative fabric.

Nicole is busy making quilts for Victoria's Quilts.

Pat Nyenhuis made this quilt from a kit from Connecting Threads. She says she doesn't normally buy kits but she really enjoyed making this one. It was quilted by Krista.

Lots of lovely work here.

If you are interested in making a fidget quilt, Helen Anderson has made some and can give you some advice.

Have a very happy Canada Day! Hopefully the weather forecast is wrong, and we won't have rain.

Our next Show and Tell is July 12.

Virtual Meeting - June 14, 2021

Tomorrow is the last day to register for Quilts Canada Virtual Show. Here is the link if you would like to look at the quilts and maybe find some new online vendors.

Meanwhile, I spent the last week sewing and it looks like I wasn't the only one.

Cathy Simpson made this quilt for her grandson's graduation from Grade 12. It was quilted by Krista.

Christine Welsh knit a christening shawl for her granddaughter Annabel who was born last week.

Diane Hart made this cute little bag for her niece. Can you tell her favourite colour is purple just like her aunt.

Dianne Watchorn is ready for Canada Day.

Johanne Vadja has finished a Kaffe Fawcett quilt.

I (Kate) made an antependium or pulpit fall for our Church. It celebrates inclusion, and is based on a pillow top pattern I saw on "We All Sew". My thanks to Pat Nyenhuis for a tiny scrap of pink. It seems that as the mother and grandmother of boys, I don't have any pink in my stash.

Marilyn sent us two quilts this week. The first is called Broken Hearts.

The second is Mexican Fiesta.

Nancy has a great story with her quilt. In 2000, she was gifted a large number of fabric samples. She had enough to make 48 blocks of 16 squares. She set them aside until recently, when she bordered them in white.

She set them aside again because she wasn't happy with it. This winter she took a class called Orphan Blocks and from the class, tried framing them by colour.

She took the leftovers and added them to the back. The quilt was quilted by Krista.

That was a great show! I hope you all enjoyed it.

Our next show and Tell is June 28.
