October 2022 - Virtual Meeting

Fall certainly arrived in a hurry. I found myself putting the fall bedding on the bed that other day, when I am sure I was in shorts just a couple of days before.

We found this nest tucked into our firewood pile, and it is a quilters delight. The maker used the covers from tennis balls, wood fiber, dog hair, some plastic from a grocery bag, and cloth from the dog's t-shirt tug. I think that counts as mixed media.

Just a small number of projects this month.

Christine Welsh made this quilt for a wedding she attended in the UK in August. She found the weather very hot, and missed our Ottawa air conditioning! The quilt was partially custom quilted by Krista.

Helen Anderson sends us a selection of the charity quilts she made over the summer. She made a total of 28.

With the cooler weather, Helen has started some holiday sewing.

MaryAnn McLaughlin has finished the I Spy quilts she was making for her two younger grandchildren. She thanks Pat Nyenhuis for teaching her about these quilts and for the fabric donations from Doreen and Kate.

This is the two quilts together. They are identical except for the names on them.

This is the front.

And this is the back.

Pat Nyenhuis says that this is the last quilt she is able to do by herself.  She says "I want to say good bye to the Poole Creek Quilters and thank you all for your friendship and support over the last number of years. Wonderful friends! My energy is very limited now but quilting is still close to my heart."

She calls this quilt "My Garden".

Our next Show and Tell will be November 7.

September 2022 - Virtual Meeting

Welcome back! How did summer fly by so quickly? I hope you are enjoying our current weather, and storing it away to remember in January.

We made a big change at our house, in August. After nearly 18 years and nearly 200 cats, we retired as a foster home for sick and orphaned kitties for Ottawa Humane Society. But fear not. I am still a crazy cat lady, because we adopted two little darlings from a rescue group near Westport.

This is Emme.

Emme is about 10 months old and is quiet and shy. She is currently helping me post the pictures.

This is Mudd.

He is about 4 months old and as you can see, he is always into everything. We are enjoying our new purr-manent family members.

MaryAnn answered my request for garden pictures and her garden is a quilt of colour right now.

Obviously she hasn't spent a lot of time in her sewing room, in order to create something this lovely.

Now for those that have actually been sewing.

Anita has been using up some of her scraps of children's fabrics and come up with a really cute baby quilt.

Carol McFee completed her Garden Scenes Quilt. The pattern is by Lynnette Anderson.

Doris Breslin made this Geese in the Lilies quilt from a layer cake. It was quilted by Krista.

Dianne Watchorn completed her version of Bonnie Hunter's Allietaire back in 2015. She got brave and used some new quilting techniques she has since learned to do justice to the lovely design.

Margaret Duncan sent us this finish. Blue and yellow quilts are all the vogue this summer.

I hope as the days get cooler, these gorgeous pictures will inspire you to get back into quilting. (Though I'll be playing with my kittens!)

August 2022 - Virtual Meeting

I have a lot of pictures for you today. I know you are going to enjoy these.

Anita has been watching videos from Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts.  Her YouTube channel can be found here:

https://www.youtube.com/c/JustGetitDoneQuilts

Anita's first quilt was inspired by one of the Just Get It Done Videos. Anita calls it her Picnic Blanket.

Anita has also been busy making table runners and placemats.

Carole Kennedy sends a quilt that she made to remind her of family vacations in Maine.

Janice Pound made this quilt for her niece's first baby due any day now. The quilt is called Sea Sampler by Stacy Iest Hsu. It was quilted by Krista.

Janice also made 2 quilties for the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

Kathy O'Hagen finished a mystery quilt from "years past". It is a Border Creek Pattern by Sherri Hisey. The quilt was quilted by Krista. Kathy will be giving it to her Brother and his wife.

Margaret Duncan sent along this finish (she had a couple more, which we hope to have pictures for next month).

MaryAnn McLaughlin's project over the last while has been Eye Spy quilts for two of the grandchildren. She is now in the process of quilting them.

MaryAnn says: "I'm using a variation on quilt as you go. Both front and back are pieced. The front is 3.5" strips and 6.5" strips and the back is 6.5" strips. I sew one side on to the batting, then flip and sew the other side."

These are process pictures.

Nancy has finished a project she has been working on for awhile. The pattern is called Perpetually Hexies by Katia Marek. Nancy says the hexies took forever and so she calls hers Horrendous Hexies. It was quilted by Krista.

Pat Nyenhuis has finished another quilt top.

Wow, that is a great collection of pictures. I'm so happy to see all of these gorgeous projects, both in progress and finished.

Next Month, our Show and Tell will be September 12. Let's see if Back to School sees us Back to Sewing. If we start getting lots of pictures, I may go back to twice a month!

Remember, I can take your pictures any time. You don't need to wait for the invitation.

Virtual Meeting - July 2022

I received a couple more pictures, so we will have a mini show and tell.

First, I thought you might get some inspiration from the winners at the Juried Show at Quilts Canada, last month.

https://canadianquilter.com/njs-award-winners-2022/

There were some interesting quilts in this years show.

Now to our own creators!

First we have Barb Sharp-Bond. Barb has completed her Canada 150 Applique quilt. Barb quilted around the blocks and Krista did some custom quilting in the blocks.

I was asked recently if it is okay to send projects that are not yet quilted. Of course it is. I even welcome pictures of projects yet to be sewn. Beth Marshall sent a picture of a quilt that is almost started. I think it is gorgeous.

Helen Anderson has finished another charity quilt.

I took a trip to BC to celebrate my Mother in Laws 90th birthday. I made some hand sanitizer pouches to give as hostess gifts. Who doesn't like a touch of Tula Pink.

Sophia sent us pictures of the baby quilt she made for a friend. It is very sweet and reversible!

I know that summer has everyone out in the garden, or off on vacation, so our next show and tell will be August 8. Perhaps we can see some projects that you have planned for the fall. Or a quilt top, waiting for the perfect backing.

Meanwhile, enjoy summer. Here is a picture of my two favourite men, plottong out their morning on the beach.

Virtual Meeting - June 2022

Welcome back. Well, May didn't go quite the way any of us expected. I hope that everyone has managed to put most of their life back together after that historic storm.

MaryAnn and her husband went to see how their cottage had fared and discovered that their maple tree had become a woodpecker buffet.

That is certainly impressive.

Meanwhile, a few of our members have been busy.

Anita has managed to produce another quilt top from her leftovers.

Cathy Simpson is showing us her talents in a different medium. She did this coloured pencil drawing of her daughter at age 4. She is planning to frame it and give it to her daughter for her daughter's 50th birthday.

Diane Hart always wanted to do the BQ quilt, and last week she finished one. She also has the binding cut and prepared.

Helen Anderson completed two tops.

You may not believe this, but I actually finished a quilt. I made the top at a retreat in Cornwall, too long ago. While tidying this winter, I decided to finish it. The quilting was done by Krista.

MaryAnn has been preparing for summer, with shorts and sunhats. I love the monkey fabric.

A nice selection of projects this month.

Our next show and tell is July 4. Perhaps we can have some Canada themed projects for that one.
