Virtual Meeting - October 19

 I hope you are all staying warm and safe as we move into cooler weather. For quilters, I think this is really our season. Nothing says warm hug quite like a quilt. This week's Show and Tell is full of fall colours and Halloween.

Barb Karim has two Halloween quilts.

I'm not sure, but I think Carol McFee may have been quilting with Barb.

Carol calls this "Trick or Treat with Dad's Old Shirts". Interesting how fabrics can really change the look of a quilt.

Carol also made these two table runners.

Cathy Simpson started this quilt for her fiftieth wedding anniversary, last year, and recently finished it. It was quilted by Krista in a modern heart motif.

Dianne Watchorn finished this quilty, that has a kind of fall theme.

The quilting is teddy bears. It is just so cute!

Doreen is getting into the Halloween spirit and recently finished this witch.

Janice Pound finished a UFO she calls "Saturday Night Special"

The quilting is again by Krista. I love that backing.

Kate made this as a table runner, but since I don't really use table runners, I have turned it into a door hanger with the help of a 'chip clip". It, of course, has cats on it.

Marilyn sent some lovely autumn colours in her quilts.

Finally, Susan Noad says this is her Covid-19 quilt made from Kaffe Fasset scraps.

I must say, there is a serious amount of orange in this Show and Tell. You now have 6 weeks to get you Christmas quilts ready for our special Christmas Show and Tell.

Meanwhile, our next regular Show and Tell will be November 2. I hope you are all creating new and wonderful things, and maybe finishing those UFO's.

Virtual Meeting - Oct. 5

 Welcome to a special edition of our Virtual Show and Tell. These are our personal favourites, the quilts we want to show you again. Click on the pictures to get a larger version of these beauties.

First up is Anita, with her Christmas Block of the Month that she hand appliqued and hand quilted.

Anita made this one for her husband Jacob, and it is hand appliqued and quilted by Jan at the Pickle Dish.

Barb Sharp-Bond used foundation paper piecing the create this lovely, and it was quilted by Krista.

Carol McFee hand appliqued, embroidered and hand quilted her interpretation of Yoko Sato's Sundial Quilt.

Dianne Wilson brings us her version of the 1718 Coverlet. She hand appliqued, hand quilted and bound it over a period of 7 months.

Doreen chose her Christmas Penguins.

Doreen also likes her Flower Garden.

Janice Pound sent her version of Gravity by Jaybird Quilts. It was custom quilted by Stella Grey. Janice made this for a wedding gift for her son and daughter-in-law.

Janice also had a finish, this week, a flannel quilt called Over and Down Under by Bonnie Sullivan, and quilted by Krista.

Jeannie Barkin made this wall hanging for her sister. She hand quilted it.

Joy calls this quilt Memories of Arizona. She bought the kit of fabrics at a quilt show in Phoenix.

Kate took a very long time to finish this quilt. It started as a class, and ended up as a gift to my daughter-in-law. It was quilted by Krista.

My son wanted a Canada 150 wall hanging. I started with the New Brunswick panel, and added to it. I machine quilted this on my 1939 Singer machine.

Liz made this baby quilt. She based it on a Jenny Doan pattern, added some applique and a soccer ball, using a wax crayon technique.

Marilyn sent these with no story, so just enjoy!

MaryAnn made Harry Potter cushions of Hedwig the Owl and the Flying Ford Anglia.

Nancy sent this picture of a quilt she started in 2000 in memory of her best friend. They started quilting together in the late '70's with cardboard templates. It is hand appliqued by Nancy and quilted by Krista, If you look carefully you might see Nancy's puppy.

Wow, those are some really wonderful quilts. The best thing about this is it shows a variety of styles, techniques and skill levels. I hope everyone is inspired to get into their sewing space and make something, this week. The experts say it is good for us!

Virtual Meeting - September 28

 I hope you all enjoyed our lovely warm weekend. It was nice to be able to sit outside without a sweater. I heard a doctor on CBC the other day suggest that it is good for our mental health to continue small outdoor distanced gatherings, even if we need to put our winter coats and gloves on. That does make handwork a bit difficult.

Frances Irwin asks if anyone can tell her the name of the pattern for the quilt below and where she might find it. Her 88 year old mother would like to make it. Frances's email is  francesirwin7@gmail.com

Show and Tell time!

First up is Barb Karim.

Barb says this is her latest UFO finish.

Barb Sharp-Bond finished two quilts for Victoria's Quilts.

Carol McFee received that fabric and pattern for Reminiscences in 2003 from Alanna Smith and Barb Karim, for a special birthday. (That was 30, right Carol?) Carol finished hand quilting it, last week.

Carol bought the pattern and fabric for Houston Bargello at the Houston quilt show in 2015. She completed it this summer.

Next is Kate. I took part in a sew along for a small case, last week. I have 4 UFOs that I started over the summer, but I had to start a new project. At least this one is finished!

Nicole made a new quilt for her guest room, in hopes her son will be able to visit soon.

Virtual Meeting - September 14

 It is starting to feel like fall. Before it gets too much cooler, I hope you will find an opportunity to get together for a socially distanced meet up with some of your quilting friends. If you don't have a backyard that will work, why not try a nearby park. If everyone brings a chair and their own coffee, you can safely enjoy the company of some other creative makers. 

I was invited to such a gathering, and I am going to start with the show and tell from that.

Joy was the hostess, and we got to see one of her quilts hanging outside.

It was kind of fun to see that Doreen had brought the same wall hanging for show and tell.

Interesting how different they look when two fabric sets are chosen.

Doreen also brought her fishing quilt.

Pat Murray is working on a Half Log Cabin quilt and brought one of the blocks.

Now on to this week's submissions.

Anita seems to have an endless supply of scraps and has started some Christmas sewing.

She also made a bed runner from scraps from a quilt she made for her husband.

Carole Kennedy made a quilt for her granddaughter's 7th birthday.

I love the pieced back.

and the embroidered label.

Joy calls this a "laundry room quilt".

I, of course, made a quick shopping tote, one rainy day this week. I've already used the fabric in two other bags. I bought the fabric at IKEA a few years ago,

That is all for this week. 

Our next show and tell will be September 28, and the following one will be October 5. I think maybe the Oct. 5 collection should be themed. Anita suggested she would like to see your favourite finish. I think that would be a great idea.
